Marsha Hamby Savage

Artist Statement

I am a landscape artist, painting in pastel or oil, with a little acrylic painting occasionally. I create paintings plein air during my travels, which are crucial to my studio work. I spend time exploring new locations before I start to paint. It allows me to see color partnerships and the way they harmonize with each other. Some early memories are of wading in a creek, picking up a rocks, looking at the moss and running my hands over it. Rocks, cascading water, trees and pastures are my passion, and what I am drawn to paint.

I have been painting for over 40 years and won numerous awards at regional, National and International Juried Exhibitions. Most recently, I was awarded “Second Place” by Dawn Whitelaw, Judge of Awards, at the 2016 BRMAA/SAAG National Show for “The Ridge in Red.”

I was honored to be chosen in 2010 for the Georgia State Capital offices of David Ralston, Speaker of the House: a 48×36″ oil painting “Dawn of a New Day,” and two smaller paintings. I have four large oil paintings that were commissioned for the Northeast Georgia Regional Hospital in Gainesville, GA, installed in the Surgical Wing waiting room. The same company also commissioned one large oil, 30″x66″ for a new wing of a hospital in Braselton, GA. My paintings are in corporate and private collections across the United States.

There is a “Marsha Savage Southeast Landscape Set” by Terry Ludwig Pastels. I am represented by Frameworks Gallery in Marietta GA, Magnolia Art Gallery in Greensboro GA, Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Assoc. in Blue Ridge GA, and Xanadu Gallery in their On-Line Gallery. I plan several workshops each year and participate in plein air festivals and paint-outs as often as possible. I am asked frequently to give programs at arts organizations on my painting techniques, marketing and how I manage my art career. I have studied with many talented and wonderfully giving artists! I am a Signature Member of the Southeastern Pastel Society, the Women Painters of the Southeast, and the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild/Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association. I am an Associate Member of the American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, and the International Plein Air Painters. I attained Master Circle Status in the International Association of Pastel Societies in 2013, receiving the Gold Medallion at the convention in June 2015.
